Granado Espada Ang Pao!

Written by gyl on Thursday, January 17, 2008

Ang Paos (Rred Packets/Envelopes) are packets/envelopes that contains monetary gift which is given in Chinese Society during holidays or special occasions.

Ang Paos (Yes I prefer calling them that) are often presented on social gatherings or family occassions like weddings or in holidays like Chinese New Year (sometimes on Christmas too). Its red color symbolizes good luck. I'm no expert but these envelopes are usually given out with a money inside it. I think it is connected with prosperity and good luck and money.

I found this in the forums under one of Hrin's post. She didn't specified yet how to get one as all she said was it'll be a contest prize. Probably more events in-game or something. The only question now is what will be inside these red packets? GVCs? Adelina the Pirate RNPC code? or probably even real CASH? I can't wait!

Panfilo's Make-Over: A look at Panfilo the Battlecook

Written by gyl on Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Panfilo the Battlesmith
Total Stat Points: 32
Str: 7
Agi: 5
Con: 7
Dex: 4
Int: 6
Cha: 3
Starting Level: 40
Location: Cash Shop
Armor: Leather Armor, Metal Armor
Personal Skill: Nil
Stances:

Sword - Back Guard
2 Sword - Hack and Slash
Sabre - Middle Guard
Sword/Sabre + Bracelet of Flame - Flame Guard

YES!! This is a must have for people who collects rNPCs and you can't let this opportunity to pass. BTW, This post is in no way meant to influence the current voting of the next month's My Bellem's Box. Anyway, Panfilo the Battlecook has 2 stat more than its normal counterpart only boasting on one point boost on both str and con. Since he doens't have any new stances, he's allowed to wear Metal Armors instead.

With 7 Con it somehow dictates that it is possible to tank with him though with the lack of any serious tanking stance, he's rather short in this department. He also don't have any personal skill to gain any actual advantage over other characters allowing the very cheap and easy to get Coimbra Trooper to be more useful (it got High-Guard and Provoke to further use its use).

5 Agi isn't fast enough for Hack and Slash but with good attack speed swords it should be good enough to offset the low agi amount. 5 Agi is still workable so it isn't that bad. His int stat isn't bad as well. 6 Int isn't much of a big deal for the Flame Guard stance as he'll only be using it for Fireball and Hellbreath which isn't really useful. Without a vet stance Panfilo will be outshined by other characters.

Bottom-line, Panfilo the Battlecook is a very unique character and is the only one that has the Flame Guard stance which is a Panfilo-only stance. He is a Cash Shop rNPC and will only be available (if ever it won the poll) via the My Bellem's Box. His stats are very Cash shop rNPC-ish though it'd be great if he gets a decent stance to work with till vet. Panfilo the Battlecook is a must have for every collector out there and you shouldn't miss up on any opportunity on getting him.

Granado Espada in mmotaku's Top Ten Thursday

Written by gyl on Tuesday, January 15, 2008

I was browsing the net for something interesting about Granado Espada. I somehow ended up on mmotaku's Top ten Thursday: Best MMORPG in the Philippines and to my surprise, I found that it (GE) managed to make it in the list. Here's what JOEL from the website wrote:

Granado Espada

[source]

What I like about this game: Crisp graphics, enough to make your eyes water; immersive background music sets the mood for trips to the nearest dungeon; innovative gameplay, particularly the auto-kill feature that allows your characters to level while you’re away from the keyboard; and playing an entire party instead of just one character lends a whole new dimension to online gaming.

What I don’t like about this game: Despite eye-catching graphics, player characters look the same; micro-management, since you simply can’t point and click expecting the two other characters you have to fend off the mobs hurting the lead character; auto-kill system is mind-dulling.

Granado Espada do have terrific graphics and perhaps (okay flame me now!!) even better IMO than World Of Warcraft. I'm serious, prolly because I prefer a not-so-cartoony-feel to my MMORPGs. Anyway, GE's music is really good (but not enough for you to go ga-ga on the CDs they sell with Box Sets) but again the game really shines on its ability to allow players to AFK (away from keyboard) train their characters.

Anyway, I’m quite surprised to see Granado Espada made it to mmotaku's top 10 list. It’s not that I don’t like the game, I’m just surprised. I don’t know if it is just me but I think Granado Espada got a weak fan base going in the Philippines. Too bad this game is really wonderful; In fact, it’s quite perfect for busy people. I'm all praises with what the current Granado Espada community and what the people in-charge are doing. It's a real nice game that other people should enjoy playing.

February My Bellem's Box and POGS 2008

Written by gyl on Thursday, January 10, 2008

I saw this over the forums and was quite surprised. I'm currently happy with my new Idge the Battlesmith rNPC and now IAH surely wanted to milk everyone with the new My Bellem's Box choices for February. The poll is a fight between Panfilo the Battlecook rNPC, Fengling rNPC and 1 Mysterious Steel Piece item. Check out the picture below and be sure to vote for Panfilo!

I was going all around asking people to vote for Panfilo. Hey! It's the only one on the list that is not acquirable normally in-game. Mysterious Steel Piece can be hunted in game but is quite rare. Angie rNPC is cheaper if you purchase the materials via normal GVC. I don't even know what a Jewel Poweder is. Fengling is set to be released in the future. Panfilo's better version, the battlecook, prolly will only have this chance to get released. So vote for him now! LOL. Yes, I'm making it personal and even taking it to here in my blog. Look, even Ulrik has something to say about it...

Anyway, I saw this over PcM Veya's Blog and I thought its been a long time since I last posted something for anything related to Granado Espada in the Philippines. If anyone wanted to check it out go to Veya's Blog for more details.

And she is for real...

Written by gyl on Saturday, January 05, 2008

Thanks to my Factionmate in Pachelbel and I was able to get my hands on an Idge the Battlesmith rNPC card! She starts at level 40 and rather imba at the start with that 8 Agi on her belt. Anyway, this post isn't to talk about Idge the battlesmith but more on what may happen in GE with such an event.

To make things short, with this month's 'My Bellem's Box', I wouldn't be surprised to see other Cash Shop RNPCs included in another month's 'My Bellem's Box'. Yes! I am now a believer that in no time, IAH will milk us with our money so we can get our hands on that coveted Adelina the Pirate Cash Shop rNPC or that Soho the Wind. I believe the only question to ask now is when are they going to be packaged on the 'My Bellem's Box'?

Has anyone noticed that we are currently bombarded with new (and some are IMBA) rNPCs to grind? Yes! I know that they're not forcing us to but who could resist not training Viki or Angie which should be a perfect weapon for CW. Think of dozens of Viki summoning Treasure Golem during CW! LOL! Total LAG!!

Anyway, if you're looking for a real good news click on this. Yes! They're keeping the x2 exp for a very long time XD. Amazing eh?

The best-est news to start year?

Written by gyl on Thursday, January 03, 2008

Yes, this is far from an April Fools' Joke! Two long months after I wrote an article titled "Words on Premium Shop rNPC" lamenting on the thought that Premium Shop rNPCs won't be released anymore for balance issues. Anyway, after the maintenance I was shocked to see the news on my GE client and so I went straight to the GE website to confirm my disbelief.

Anyway, she isn't much of an imba rNPC and definitely a must get. Why? We'll here are her stats to begin with:

Idge the Battlesmith
Total Stat Points: 31
Str: 6
Agi: 8
Con: 5
Dex: 6
Int: 3
Cha: 3
Starting Level: 40
Location: Cash Shop
Armor: Leather Armor, Metal Armor
Personal Skill: Nil
Stances:
Sword + Shield - Back Guard, High Guard
2 Sword - Hack and Slash
Great Sword - Plow Guard, Roof Guard, Tail Guard, Sidewinder
Pole Arm - Blandir Cruz, Penetrar Cruz

With 1 Agi more than the normal Idge and without the ability to craft, she gets three more stances to compensate for it. I believe the only thing that makes her better than the normal Idge is the Hack and Slash stance and High Guard. She'll benefit more from Hack and Slash as her Agi is pretty much high up there already. Her Great Sword stances should be better than ever with an additional Agi (though it isn't seriously a huge difference). Yes! I'm a fan of the battlesmith look (I personally think it looks pretty bad ass!).

Seriously now. Idge the Battlesmith is not that much different from the normal Idge. The extra AGI wouldn't make much of a difference but that is when you look at it using Great Sword and Pole Arm stances. I believe ItB (Idge the Battlesmith) will excel more on using swords. 5 HP isn't enough to cover the tanking part even with High Guard. But with her 8 AGI she will and shall be a monster using Hack and Slash. With 1 more point upon reaching Veteran Status you can maker her deal more damage or make her go even faster.

The My Bellem costs like what? 19.90 SGD? Along with the NPC Card you get 2 Platemail costume and 1 Blue Female Samurai Costume. The latter 2 shouldn't mean much more than the card and the little 5,800 G-points along with it. Whether to purchase My Bellem's Box or not is up to you! If you're more of a collector (like me) It's almost impossible to let such an opportunity go by (though I'm guessing she can go on sale after some time though it'll be around XXXM Vis or more?) but if you're more like a smart buyer and doesn't have the luxury purchase one, you really won't miss much passing up on this opportunity.

Countdown to v2.4

Written by gyl on Wednesday, December 19, 2007

With less than 24 hours to go before Granado Espada is open again, let's take a look at the new things we can expect. Also, do remember that all new features won't be released just yet. They announced that they'll be releasing features after features probably month after month. There's a tentative schedule from Ms. Hrin's blog as I'll be quoting her on this one.

RNPCs Angie and Karjalainen will be out tomorrow as well. Other RNPCs are planned to be released monthly. Lil' Viki and Feng Ling (Soso) is scheduled to be released next month, Jan 2008 while Edward Jameson & Kurt will probably be out in Feb 2008 and lastly, Gavin Jameson in March 2008. This is the tentative schedule and subject to change since this industry is so dynamic and changes might happen at anytime so please don't swear by my schedule.
- Ms. Hrin

Like what she said, don't get your hopes up too much. But what I think is sure are the new Premium Cash Shop Items that will be sold after GE goes live again. Here's a quick link to the new premium items. The best thing to look out for is perhaps the Item Enhancement Booster than can get you to +6 with no risk.

So far it will only be the Bahia Island and Island of Fire maps will be open for tomorrow. The other new maps will be released a few months later.

Aside from the new way of reporting bots there's a super interesting new features that will blow away those who enjoy doing boss raids and PvPs. Granado Espada's v2.4 patch calls it the Super Fight. It is much like an everything goes map where you can attack almost everyone.

Interacting with other players is a lot better now. You can now simply right click the name of the broader, your squad/faction mate and be able to whisper, view their profile, block or invite them to squad. This is rather convenient specially for people who wants to form a squad within the same faction.

V2.4 is really against botters. Not only do they added the Report-Botters-In-game-Function, they also added requirement for logging out. Now you have to wait for 5 seconds before you can log out or exit the program with out moving or doing anything. This will be a headache to the botters in PK servers.

There's also some changes on some character classes. There's also a possiblity that Catherine and Jack's skill can be cancelled midway. Here's a direct quotation, again, from Ms. Hrin's Blog.

Changes to the Wizard class
a. “Reflection” has been changed to “Energy Shield”
b. While using energy shield, the shield will protect the user from damage by consuming SP instead of HP
c. Decrease Levitation stance attack range
d. Increase cool down time for “Photon Splash” and “Hole of Darkness”
e. Uses one Magical Orb for “Photon Splash” and two Magical Orb for “Hole of Darkness”
f. Reduces Mental RES when using Magical Piercing
g. Does not decrease movement speed and DEF when using Invisible Stalker skill

Change to Elementalist class
a. “Activate Mana” has been changed to “Elemental Blessing”
b. After casting “Elemental Blessing”, you will be allowed to defend against any attack once. After blocking the attack, “Elemental Blessing” will be gone
c. Increases damage of “Meteor Strike”, “Firewall”, “Blazing Pillar” and “Volcanic Eruption”

You can now craft HQ Gems and level 100 Equipments. Keep in mind that a level 100 Armors (like the ones from Katovic which you have to do a long quests) gives you 25 DR. Level 100 Elite Armor gives around 30 DR. Level 100 Equips are good alternatives for Elite Level 84 Armors and if you're still hunting or having a hard time looking for an Elite level 92.

Or if you're more of the gambler type, you can try your luck on Bellem Boxes! Yes! Potions' Drop rate have been decreased and Boss Spinelles, Gems, and even Equipments' drop rates are increased.

Granado Espada Trivia 2: Things you really don't need to know.

Written by gyl on Friday, December 07, 2007

Okay, after a long while time for another Granado Espada Trivia! Here are just a couple of random stuff I have accumulated over time. Have fun. A lot of things here are quite useless. Read on to burn time or something.

  • There is also a Ghost Busters reference in the game. Prior to assigning a quest, an NPC claims uses the phrase "ain't afraid of no ghosts."
  • The nickname of "Granado Espada" in Korea is a "dressing game" this is partly due to the fact that update patch of the game mostly introduces new game costumes for characters.
  • The Roof, Plow and Tail stances used by the fighter class in game are based on three actual guards found in the Medieval and Renaissance German school of fencing. The guards depicted in game are similar to those used by the longsword
  • All the names of sGE server are taken from Miguel de Cervantes, Agostino Carracci, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, Johann Pachelbel
  • Most of the recruitable character's names are from prominent people during the renaissance period.
  • There's a real person named Pánfilo de Narváez and he was a Spanish conqueror and soldier in the Americas. So much for being a battle cook in the world of Granado Espada.
  • Brunie Etienne's surname (Étienne) is equivalent to Stephen in French. While her first name may be derived from the leading humanist of the renaissance's Leonardo Bruni.
  • Ramiro's named probably came from the Spanish King Ramiro I of Astarius/Aragon.
  • Adelina Esperanza's surname is equivalent to Hope in Spanish.
  • If you serach M'Boma in wikipedia the closest turn out would be Edwin Sam - M’boma who is a Sierra Leonean military commander.
  • Soho is an area in the centre of the West End of London, England, in the City of Westminster. It is an entertainment district which for much of the later part of the 20th century had a reputation for its sex shops as well as its night life and film industry.
  • Lorch Furuholmen shares the same surname with some guitarist/keyboardist Magne Furuholmen.
  • Jean-Pierre Gascon or formerely known as Gertrude came from Gertrude the Great who was a German Benedictine and mystic writer.

Granadosource's 100th Post - The Pursuit of Happyness

Written by gyl on Friday, November 23, 2007

I've been playing Granado Espada ever since I had it downloaded in May of 2007. It was fun and thrilling as I go about with the game. Exploring the beautiful landscape design and creating over a dozen characters to fill and serve as a decoration in my barracks. The land scape was amazing if you take a second to look around (at high resolution and graphical settings). Slowly, it became evident that Granado Espada before isn't the same as it was when I started out. As more and more people started playing the game (which is a good thing!), the way the game is played has changed dramatically. New rules has been set, as the battlefield isn't enough, war has been taken into a much fearsome stage - the economy. Prices suddenly skyrocketed and all of a sudden everyone's asking for nine digits of vis (that's like xxxM vis) for an item. Bots instantly flooded low level training grounds and you'd rarely be able to make out a normal player along the swarming bots of patrolling back and fort. For months they were able to do so freely and managed to stock up on probably more than twelve digits of vis to be sold. After some time, action was taken and their numbers went down. Though the bots have lessen in number, a new cause of head-ache took over. I'll mannered player who has small regards on Online Gaming Ethics. They'd run around training areas and take over good spot you long coveted. Then came people randomly PKing you and causing roughly five to ten levels of your hardwork down the drain. The weekly maintenance was supposedly for the server to rest, this is understandable since they're simply machines that do need time to recuperate as well. Though it is a good procedure, what comes after it is horrible. Even at the lowest setting (considering that your connection is at least decent) you'd still experience random lagspikes that can cost you to lose a loot perfectly waiting for you to pick them up. If this causes head-ache, then I won't bother going further to Colony Wars. It was reviewed that the game is a total grindfest. It was indeed! Training your character till vet takes around a couple of weeks of full grinding. Upon hitting vet status, you'll be needing to spend GPoints to upgrade them to the next level then you'll have to grind some more (grind to long, its as if you were training three new characters to vet). Playing nonstop for hours doesn't guiarantee you a solid amount (or even a rough number) of good loots which you'll be needing for your vets. Then it will jump right back to the stressful skyrocketing of prices.

Granado Espada is a game. It's supposedly fun. The Pursuit of Happyness isn't dependent solely on the game itself. I may have pointed out what I feel is what makes the game stressful and frustrating but it all boils down to the character of the person(the gamer) and how he will go about the game. It is not the game that gives you happiness. It is the way you play the game. Do not frustrate yourself on overpriced weapons, instead go join a fun Faction that definitely suits your taste and playing style. Don't fret on high leveled people who are actually bots, or the inequality that is sometimes caused by hacking or what not but instead go explore the game and the artistic landscape design it has stored for you. Don't get jelous over dominant faction, remember Rome eventually fell. Don't be annoyed with the game's drop rate, instead go do quests or do raids or missions with your friends. Granado Espada is an enjoyable game. It is fun. Despite what has happened, what is happening and what will happen next, never stop trying to pursue what makes you happy.

Thank You for supporting Granadosource. Sailing with us for almost three months has been an amazing experience. As of November 23, 2007 12:01am we have received 20,526 visits and we are very happy to see that it is still growing.

How's a Double Drop Rate Weekend?

Written by gyl on Thursday, November 15, 2007

The above image is a quote from Hrin about them planning a double drop rate event on a weekend. Though they're still waiting for IMC's approval, I'm already keeping my hopes up for such an event. Think of how many Gold and Diamond Coupon you can abuse on that one event or if Rion Hollow or Laboratory Block FT is racking you 70M per run can double to a whooping 140M or more. I believe more than the items you can get, Double Drop rate encourages people into playing the game some more. I personally experience a long drought of nothing but Healing Drops and/or Pure Talts. It is freakin' annoying if you get a longer no-item drought (even more annoying that Brunie or Emilia's Voice Overs).

Speaking of which I hope they aren't serious on not realeasing certain RNPCs. I'm still keeping my hopes up for my Adelina the Pirate (I'd never settle with a fake one - the one wearing just the costume), Soho the Wind and my Panfilo the Battlecook!

I'm still amazed as to how much the prices of various shields turn out. Going back to the "Of Shields" article I wrote before, there isn't really much noticeable difference between the DEF of a high level shield and a low level shield. I'm currently experimenting on certain-monster-type-damage-reduction shield which is really yielding neat results.

Anyway, Won't a x2 EXP, Stance, Drop Rate make your Christmas Season more jolly? x4 or x10 is glorious!! >_<

Did you ever noticed...

Written by gyl on Thursday, November 08, 2007

...that there's a very helpful and interesting support FAQ in the sgGE Official Website? And it got really interesting stuffs that you really don't need to knw (well some poeple who's really really new to online gaming would find it useful). Heck, check it out if you're curious. I bet some people would still ask questions in the forums that is already in the FAQs.

The Support FAQs can be found here.

...that Andre Janzurr's Fantazzztic Poses got some serious typo going on. Now, I wonder where did Viki got the name for his vet stance (Testis >_<)

...that Granado Espada programmers and designers do put a lot of conceptualizing into character details. Check this out:

Picture came from Glacie in this thread.

...you can get bald if you're too frustrated on GE's current drop rate. Or lay-off the over upgrading as those glowing weapons might probably be cancerous O_O. Kidding, this is perhaps a problem with the layers in the game. Pretty much like the one above.

Picture came from Hekamaru in this thread.

On the Naked Bug in Granado Espada (18 R+) and the current Runtime Bug

Written by gyl on Saturday, November 03, 2007

From the MMOsite News Center

KeyWord: Granado Espada Date: 2007-10-31
Summary: Recently, many players are discussing that some bugs appeared in Korean severs of Granado Espada. The dugs are found at night of 20th, Oct. Some players said, about at 1:00 of the day, the screen suddenly became dark and return loading page during they playing, when they restarted and entered the game, they actually found they were naked!!

Here are some of the pictures from the article. Check out the bottom picture, the other characters in the area are in their full costumes. It obviously looked like a photoshoped version of the swimsuit pictures. If this is really a bug from kGE there should be Red Error Boxes around there or something or there should be RunTime errors for unloaded graphics (which is bothering a lot of people, including me until now).

Anyway, it's up to you to decide if you think they're real or not. Heck, if its real it tells you a lot on how much effort the programmers and designers put into creating their character models. BTW, if you're still experiencing the runtime error (MICROSOFT VISUAL C+++ Runtime Library R6025 ERROR!) try checking out this post by Lt. Taulin. It seems like there is a problem with the Lucifer's Wings, like when you see them you crash. Other speculations, are like the character combination (most of those who experience the error got a Fighter/Ele/Scount combination). Other remedy includes reinstalling the whole game, repatching and setting all video configurations to high (ouch!).

Words on Premium Shop RNPCs

Written by gyl on Monday, October 29, 2007

I personally can't wait for my Adelina the Pirate, Soho the Wind, Idge the Battlesmith and Panfilo the Battlecook to arrive in sgGE's Premium Shop but all my hopes died down after reading about these Premium Shop RNPCs (well hopefully not all of them) will not be gracing our barracks.

I don't know if you can say that it is official but in a post made by Regional Community Manager Hrin in the sgGE Forums. She said that "
premium shop RNPCs like Pirate Adelina , Soho the Wind etc, IMC will not allow us to release them as they are too IMBA". It totally broke my heart. Though we can still hope as "there might be variations of them under a different name with more balanced stats" might come out.

Now, I'm really tempted to buy a Pirate Costume for my Adelina. I think the only think that made them imbalance is the stances maybe they should tweak it a bit and still release an Adelina the Pirate Premium Shop RNPC! .......or atleast let me get my hands on a Panfilo the Battlecook RNPC!

Actual page of the Hrin's post can be found here.

Granado Espada Galore! (Things you really don't need to know)

Written by gyl on Tuesday, September 11, 2007

Granado Espada Galore! I have been searching (well fooling around actually) google and playing with the search engine and I happen to find a couple of fun stuffs for you guys. (And no, I'm not running out of things to post.. lol so that it won't be too much fighter info for a month XD *cough*cough*) First up, have you ever wondered how many times the word Granado Espada is searched in an Hourly/Daily/Weekly or even Monthly. Well you wouldn't really care and knowing won't really do you much good but there's a freakin' 1.3M Results from Google and is being searched almost 41 times daily, just 2 searches more than people asking for how many quart in a gallon (39.07 turnouts). (search is from Home-Business-Today.com)

There's a website called Granado-Espada.es that allows you to download more Granado Espada Wallpapers. Here are some of my personal favorites.

...at the same time i found a really nice youtube video on Granado Espada : Concept Art which is really cool..

Anyway, notice a sudden trend in GE costumes? Now, they got school uniforms. Ever wondered what'll be next? (lol.. i personally wanted a panda costume) Here's something to look forward to in the near future.

And lastly, there's really a fun blog I recently visited (and seriously you should check it out to). It's titled as Life in Granado Espada Where your second life start. The blog presents Granado Espada in another angle. A really comedic one which is really a good read while you're afking or something ^_^ Here's a sample article from his blog.

It’s been a known fact that how Granado Espada is being centered into a totally inflated games, with bots and vis seller lurking around. Imagine buying some rare at a rate beyond the reach of even hardcore players. How about those who played casually? They either stick with their crap, seeing how unfair the economy goes, or just join the crowd buying the vis from the evil vis seller... [Read further]

Granado Espada Trivia

Written by gyl on Saturday, September 01, 2007

I was searching for any trivia about Granado Espada and I've come up with a few. Enjoy this shortlist while AFKed or something ^_^

  • Granado espada" is Spanish for "distinguished sword", although the grammar is improper, as in Spanish the noun comes before the adjective. Also, "espada" is a feminine noun, so the name of the game should be "Espada Granada". The game's backstory claims that the new world was "discovered" by 2 explorers named Granado and Espada.
  • When Idge Imbrulia, the first blacksmith one encounters in the game, gives the player's family their first Plate Mail armor in the game she tells them it's marked with her personal trademark, a swoosh. This is in reference to a scene in the film A Knight's Tale. Incidentally the trademark bears an uncanny resemblance to the Nike logo.
  • There is one possible Counter-Strike reference in the game. At the end of one of the quests, the NPC who assigned the quest announces: "Counter-Terrorists Win."

The trivia above is taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granado_Espada,
